What's a Lightning (LN) Address?

The Lightning Address is like an e-mail address, but for Lightning. It enables you to send and receive Bitcoin on Lightning like we send e-mails today. 

Why do I need a Lightning Address?

Lightning functions differently than legacy payment systems. With Lightning, a payment always starts with a payment request, created by the receiver. But you might want to receive Bitcoin on Lightning without actively creating invoices 24/7 right? That's where the Lightning Address comes in.
